Marvel Celebrates Historic Inauguration in Amazing Spider-Man #583

Amazing Spider-Man #583 - Obama VariantTo celebrate the upcoming inauguration of Barack Obama, Marvel is proud to present an all-new story teaming up one of the world’s most recognizable political figures with one of the world’s greatest super-heroes as President-Elect Obama joins Spider-Man in "Spidey Meets the President," a special addition to Amazing Spider-Man #583 (NOV08 2358).

This all-new story written by Zeb Wells and drawn by Todd Nauck and Frank D’Armata takes place in Washington, D.C. on Inauguration Day and finds one of Spider-Man’s oldest foes attempting to thwart the swearing in ceremony of the 44th President of the United States.

This story will be featured as a bonus story in Marvel Comics' Amazing Spider-Man #583, now available in comic book shops nationwide. The issue's special variant cover by artist Phil Jimenez featuring the President-Elect and Spider-Man available for this issue is shown left.

The entire world seems to be taking notice of Obama’s exciting appearance alongside Spider-Man. News outlets that have already covered his pairing with the Web-slinger include: the Associated Press, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, New York Daily News, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, BBC, Canada’s National Post, Agence France Press, Sydney Morning Herald, Singapore’s Straits Times.

“When we heard that President-Elect Obama is a collector of Spider-Man comics, we knew that these two historic figures had to meet in our comics’ Marvel Universe,” said Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada. “Historic moments such as this one can be reflected in our comics because the Marvel Universe is set in the real world. A Spider-Man fan moving into the Oval Office is an event that must be commemorated in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man.”

The 40-page, full-color Amazing Spider-Man #583 should be sought-after not only byAmazing Spider-Man #583 Obama Variant 2nd Printing regular followers of the series, but Obama fans that showed their support in the recent election.

To accomodate this expected demand, Marvel Comics has also announced that it's already heading back to press for an Amazing Spider-Man #583 Obama Variant Second Printing (NOV08 8096), featuring a recolored version of the original variant cover (shown right) and scheduled to reach stores the following week, on January 21.
